The Arrow McLaren driver shared an Instagram “photo dump” that transported viewers to a paradise of sun-kissed beaches, golfing escapades, and unforgettable moments with friends.
The Instagram post is a treasure trove of ten mesmerizing snapshots, each revealing a piece of O’Ward’s tranquil adventure. The first slide showcases O’Ward embodying the essence of beach chic, donning stylish polarized sunglasses and a vibrant sarong. At the second round of the NTT IndyCar Championship, O’Ward dominated the starting grid, securing pole position alongside teammate Christian Lundgaard. Despite leading an impressive 51 laps, he finished second behind Alex Palou, showcasing his skill and determination. Following the race, IndyCar shared a video of O’Ward’s team radio message, where he praised his team’s pit work, saying, “Well, good job, everyone. Let’s keep working…Good job in the pits everyone. Good job pit box. Really enjoyed it, so keep pushing, keep pushing. Push, push, push, baby!”
O’Ward’s team took a strategic gamble by switching to primary compound tires on lap 50, but it ultimately didn’t yield the desired results as Alex Palou’s alternate compound proved superior. Reflecting on the decision, O’Ward noted, “We took a gamble; it didn’t work out for us. We had used our new reds (alternate tires) at the start because we didn’t really quite know what the deg (tire degradation) was going to be like. The blacks (primary tires) really kind of took a turn for the negative at the end of the race, and that was it. We didn’t stand a fighting chance.”
In the second round of the NTT IndyCar Championship, O’Ward secured 44 points, positioning him second in the overall standings with 63 points, just 39 points behind leader Alex Palou. Beyond his IndyCar exploits, O’Ward has expressed a deep desire to compete in his home country of Mexico. With NASCAR announcing a race in Mexico City for 2025, O’Ward hopes to join the event, though his IndyCar commitments might prevent it. His passion for racing in front of Mexican fans is palpable, and he remains a driving force behind efforts to bring IndyCar back to Mexico.
