Coach Luis Enrique’s move to sell one of Paris Saint-Germain’s most beloved players has met with criticism from fans.
Paris Saint-Germain’s assistant vice-president Kimel Kimpembe has appeared on the list of players eligible for transfer. This was a decision made by coach Luis Enrique, according to Sky Sports Italia. The reason for this is Kimpembe’s delayed performance after the injury, which caused him to take a break for nearly two years. While the 2018 world champion still receives a regular salary of nearly €150,000 per week, his contract runs until 2026.
It seems like a reasonable step for coach Luis Enrique to restructure PSG in his rejuvenation policy. But Kimpembe’s purge has once again been criticized by the Paris Saint-Germain fans. According to Romain Mobille, leader of the ultras (PSG’s most passionate and loyal fans), Enrique’s decision is considered “cruel”: Luis Enrique has checked Kimpembe’s name off PSG’s long-term plan.
“Presnel is the son of Paris, the symbol of PSG. He was deeply hurt in the return.

When Kimpembe was released from injury last month, he was cheered on by all PSG fans, especially the Ultras Association. Most Paris fans have feelings for Kimpembe because he is growing up in the team and has admirably battled injuries for many years. Meanwhile, the French press speculated that Kimpembe did not have a good relationship with Luis Enrique, as the two had not worked together on the pitch.
Presnel Kimpembe is PSG’s assistant captain, having made 205 appearances at all levels since 2013. The former Frenchman was the main center in Ligue 1 before suffering an Achilles tendon injury in early 2023, which has kept him out of action ever since. Last November, PSG’s medical department announced that Kimpembe was fit to train after 638 days in the hospital, but it was still unclear when the 29-year-old would be able to return to professional action.
