IndyCar driver Alexander Rossi is urging series organizers to address the “insane” gaps in the 2025 schedule, arguing that they disrupt fan engagement and hinder the sport’s growing momentum.
Rossi’s comments come after a three-week break following the second race of the season. He believes these extended pauses negate the positive impact of pre-season promotion and strong TV numbers.
“The three-week gap is insane,” Rossi stated on the “Off Track with Hinch and Rossi” podcast. “We have so much investment and momentum…everything’s good, everything’s badass, and then we disappear.”
Rossi’s critique highlights a key challenge for IndyCar: balancing the demands of a diverse schedule with the need to maintain consistent fan interest. While the series has seen promising engagement figures, these long breaks risk losing viewers to other racing series or sports.
Despite his concerns about the calendar, Rossi had a strong showing at the Thermal Club Grand Prix, finishing in ninth place. He also expressed satisfaction with his car, noting its improved feel compared to previous seasons.
Rossi has been a consistent presence in IndyCar since 2016, racking up eight wins, 30 podiums, and seven pole positions in 147 starts. He aims to improve upon his 10th-place finish in the 2024 season.
